RechenRallye is a serious game in the 2D Side-Scroller style. The game is aimed at young players and gradeschoolers to help teach simple mathematics and improve their cognitive abilities in a fun and engaging form.

This solo project was developed in order to receive the “Bachelor of Arts: Game Design & Management” Degree at the Hochschule Fresenius in Wiesbaden Germany. In the current stage of development, I am aiming to create a fun and engaging protype.

The player can discover three distinct biomes with multiple levels, each demanding a different arithmic skill:
In the green hills, the players skill of addition is tested, while frozen plains thest the skill of subtraction and the scorching deserts demand the skill of multiplication!

The game features randomly generated math problems featuring the basic arithmetic operations on three different difficulty levels. Additionally the difficulty level of the gameworld itself can be changed, giving the player a total of 9 different combinations of difficulty. This is done in order to give every player an appropriate challenge, no matter their skill level.

The players skill and improvements can be viewed through built in statistics. Here the game displays the needed time for a player to solve all problems posed by an enemy. The table sorts the results based on difficulty and the type of Giving an insight into the players strengths and weaknesses regarding their mathematical skills.

The player can collect “Stars” through solving the posed problems which allows them to personalize their character by purchasing new colors with this strictly in-game currency.
